GAP at the High Level Meeting on the New Urban Agenda and UN Habitat

The GAP ExCo has developed a??response??to the High Level Independent Panel to Assess the effectiveness of UN-Habitat, now being circulated widely. GAP in partnership with the Global Task Force organized the??Stakeholder Consultation,??September 5, featuring several GAP co-chairs. The GAP Executive Council met in New York City to discuss future plans.

Executive Committee meeting and Plenary Meeting

The General Assembly of Partners holds its Sixth Plenary Meeting on May 7, 2017 in Nairobi, Kenya, where it approves its revised Constitution and discusses the PCGs Strategic Frameworks and Action Plans towards the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. It sponsors workshops and a Seventh Extraordinary Plenary Meeting on May 11. The Media PCG publishes a 58-page Media Coverage 2015-2017 book.

Executive Committee meeting PCGs Strategic Framework and Action Plan

The Executive Committee meets again to review each PCGs Strategic Framework and Action Plan for the New Urban Agenda. It reviews members inputs and finalizes the draft revised Constitution and By Laws to distribute to the membership for a vote at the Sixth Plenary.

GAP Executive Committee meeting in New York

The GAP Executive Committee meets in New York City to consolidate its inputs from the Habitat III process, to review the membership survey results and to complete the draft revised Constitution to send to the membership for comment. The Executive Committee decides that each PCG will develop a Strategic Framework and Action Plan for the Implementation of the New Urban Agenda

Meet with UNSG

The Habitat III Conference takes place in Quito Ecuador. The New Urban Agenda references GAP (para 128). The Executive Committee is invited to meet with UNSG Ban Ki-Moon to discuss GAP's inputs in the process. GAP president and vice president address opening and closing plenaries. At the GAP Fifth Plenary meeting, the General Assembly of Partners votes to build on its momentum to work towards implementation of the New Urban Agenda. The Executive Committee undertakes an all- members survey to reaffirm GAPs aims and objectives.

Fourth Plenary and associated Executive Committee (PrepCom3)

The General Assembly of Partners convenes the Fourth Plenary and an associated Executive Committee meeting in conjunction with the Third Preparatory Committee on Habitat III (PrepCom3). The Persons with Disabilities PCG is approved for membership, and the PCG number grows to 16.

Informal hearings with Major Groups and Other Stakeholders

The General Assembly of Partners hosts the informal hearings with Major Groups and Other Stakeholders in collaboration with the Secretariat, and Member States. All the PCGs represented by their chairs, the president and vice president and more than 40 speakers offer their views on the draft New Urban Agenda. GAP participated in the Ford Foundation-organized Civil Society Week.

Partnerships for the New Urban Agenda

After an extensive consultation process, GAP publishes its = consensus outcome document, Partnerships for the New Urban Agenda, conceived in Berlin outlines proposals that emphasize multi-stakeholder engagement in the implementation of the New Urban Agenda.

Third Plenary Meeting

In conjunction with the Regional Meeting for the WEOG region, the General Assembly of Partners holds its Third Plenary Meeting as well as an Executive Committee meeting. The Older Persons PCG is approved for membership, and the PCG number grows to 15. The Bureau invites the entire Executive Committee for an exchange of views. The GAP president addresses the opening plenary.

Brainstorm the strategic roadmap and contributions of the General Assembly of Partners

With funding from Germany, half of the Executive Committee (one co-chair per PCG) meets in Berlin to brainstorm the strategic roadmap and contributions of the General Assembly of Partners. They agree on the basic values and principles for the New Urban Agenda and develop a post Habitat III partnership strategy, focused on sharing knowledge, advocacy, experimentation, monitoring and financial oversight

Executive Committee and the Second Plenary

The General Assembly of Partners holds two meetings: the Executive Committee and the Second Plenary. The Plenary adopts the New York Declaration also presented to the Bureau. ??The Declaration pledged to create multi-stakeholder partnerships and to provide a framework for a strong stakeholder legacy in the post Habitat III era.

Future of Places Conference

The General Assembly of Partners Executive Committee holds its second meeting in Stockholm during the Future of Places Conference. They discussed GAP's anticipated program. The president volunteers to develop a PCG Chairs' Handbook to consolidate important information for the organization.

Inaugural Meeting

The General Assembly of Partners holds its inaugural meeting on 13 April 2015 in Nairobi, Kenya where it adopted its Constitution and By-laws. It elected the Executive Committee and engaged a process of outreach to all PCG constituencies. At this meeting, GAP adopted the Nairobi Declaration, which outlines its commitments for contributing to the elaboration of the New Urban Agenda and that requests for recognition and engagement in the Habitat III process. The GAP president and vice president presented the Nairobi Declaration to the Bureau

Urban Thinkers Campus

At the first Urban Thinkers Campus, partners of the World Urban Campaign decide to create the General Assembly of Partners as an engagement platform to include a broader range of stakeholders and constituencies in the Habitat III process. As an outcome of the Urban Journalism Academies, the Media is recognized as a constituency group in relation to urban issues, adding to the traditional Habitat Agenda Partners and the Agenda 21 Major Groups.
